Cedar Point
Theme Park Food Review – Cedar Point BackBeatQue BBQ Smokehouse
Our last visit this August, we finally had the opportunity to try this new restaurant that was opened last season. It was too busy last year, so with the low crowd levels, I was pretty excited to get the opportunity to try this place.
Just so you know, BBQ is my thing. I love it. This is one of the reasons I love visiting the South. So far, Dollywood, has had the best BBQ I’ve tried in a theme park so far. I was curious to see if Cedar Point because of it’s location in the north, could compete with the southern delicacy.
BackBeatQue is located near the Gemini, the Water park side exit, near the Magnum Roller Coaster. It debuted in 2019 so it’s currently in its second season of service.
What Did I Order At This Cedar Point Restuarant?
On this visit, I was using the All Day Dining Meal Plan so I was only able to get One Meat and a Side. They offered a variety of different meats, including pulled pork, brisket, and Sausage.
I simply love smoked sausages so I decided to go with the Sausage and for the side,I went with the Beans as I already had Mac and Cheese earlier in the day and I wasn’t feeling the fries.
They dished up the beans into a cup, put the sausage on the plate, and also provided me with a cornbread muffin.
My wife & daughter both got the brisket and a Salad.
There were no tables in the interior of the place. You had to move through the place and then exit outdoors to eat your meal. Because of the pandemic, this is something I noticed with a lot of places in the park.
(Sorry I lost the pics of the seating area.)
It was fine, there was plenty of seating outside so there we went.
Our Official Theme Park Food Score:
Our Score: 6.1
The food was a mixed bag for me. There was part of it I really liked while a part of it I absolutely didn’t like it very much. Because this was on the dining plan, the plate itself was a little underwhelming to what I got in Universal Studios, however, I didn’t have a plan there and purchased the two meat meal. The dining plan here only allowed one meat.
What I liked About the Meal.
The Sausage I absolutely loved. I felt it had good flavor and had a little bit of a kick, which I love. For me, the Cedar Point Sausage was better than the Sausage I had in Universal Studio’s Monster Cafe. This is why I gave them a little better score as the Beans, oh, my, well, we have to talk about the beans.
The Cornbread Muffin was okay, but cold. There truly is nothing like having a warm Cornbread muffin right out of the oven to where the butter melts on contact. No chance of this happening here. But it wasn’t bad and was decent.
What I Did Not Like About The Meal.
As you guessed the Beans were a little off for me. I did eat about half the cup of them. However, I really didn’t like them and probably would never order them again. The main reason there was some type of spice that was really overwhelming the taste of them.
It was really strong. I nearly gagged the first bite I had of the beans. I am not even sure that if someone had an acquired taste for them would like them during this day. This may not be how they usually taste and someone might have gotten a little crazy with the spices, but for me, the beans just were not what I was expecting and were pretty bad for my taste.
The Experience Ordering.
The experience of ordering wasn’t that bad. Of course last year we tried to get into this place, but it was extremely busy, so we passed. On this day, it was great.
They were social distancing pretty well as there were stickers on the floor and the staff made sure to let you know when you were too close to someone or needed to go to a certain spot. They were pretty vocal.
